The process of learning and teaching is undergoing a striking change due to the acceleration of digitalization of education and the recent introduction of AI. This course examines how digital technologies are reshaping education systems and learning processes, and explores the historical evolution of educational technologies, theoretical perspectives, and policy developments. Emphasis is placed on students' and teachers' perceptions as we examine how digital transformation affects the concepts of education, the learning process, and teaching.
Adopting a critical theoretical perspective, the course emphasizes improving participants’ analytical and reflective abilities by engaging with scholarly texts that draw on a wide range of case studies from around the world. Students will participate in rich discussions, produce reflective writing, and critically assess the promises and disappointments (perhaps?) of digital transformation in education. They will conduct a research project on selected country cases related to the course topic. Active participation, in-class debates, and comparative analyses will be central to course assessment. Preparing a poster presentation based on the research project is a “must” for this course. Since the course is situated around in-class discussions on articles and concepts, student attendance and participation are mandatory.
