The main aim of the seminar is to help doctoral students develop their skills in writing their doctoral thesis. Such skills include the structuring of the thesis, philosophical argument, the structuring of chapters, use of literature, clarity of presentation. Doctoral students will be asked to present parts of their thesis and submit in advance a chapter or section of it, which will be then exposed to the criticism of the participants of the seminar. The further aim of the seminar is to familiarize doctoral students with some important pieces of philosophical writing, which qualify as examples of clear and sophisticated philosophical writing. One such paper will be assigned for each session and students will be asked to read it and summarize its thesis in one page. Such a work will help doctoral students become familiar with philosophical literature outside their field of research and profit from their writing strategies. Ultimately, this kind of work will serve the main aim of the seminar, which is to help students develop their writing skills in philosophy.
